Prague Explosion
Most of my followers probably know that I am currently studying abroad in Prague, Czech Republic. Today at about 11:30am, I got a Facebook IM from my friend in a big group chat saying “omg is everyone okay.” I thought she was referring to the fact that we were all traveling this weekend and a lot of us were probably really wasted. However, she then told us what happened. There was a huge explosion by the national theater in old town today. At the time, they have found 25 injured people. Now there have been about 40 injured people found and they believe three people are buried underneath rubble. They believe this explosion was caused by gas in someones home. This area where the explosion happened is maybe a mile and a half away from where I live. My school is right there and we are at this area every single day. Seeing the photographs of this area that I know so well is heartbreaking. Pieces of glass are everywhere. I had class today and the trams weren’t able to go anywhere. In fact, they were all lined up one by one on the street near my school because they just had nowhere else to go. One of my friends tried going to the bank but couldn’t because everything was closed off. This area is also where most tourists usually go so I just couldn’t even imagine being on vacation and being injured by an explosion. People had to evacuate their hotels at 10am this morning when this happened because their glass windows were shattering from the impact. Apparently this explosion was heard at the Prague castle which is only a 10 minute walk away from where I live. I did not hear the explosion from home fortunately. Luckily everyone I know is okay and I was not effected. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who was effected by this explosion. My heart is broken for my current home and I hope everything gets back to normal as soon as possible. #prayforprague
